EPD: Candida Yeast Infection Treatment

A relatively effective treatment for yeast infection is immunotherapy. This treatment consists in avoiding the intake of all yeasty foods and sugary foods. Patients undergoing this treatment are given diluted doses of allergenic substances in oral drops or injections to reduce the allergic response by improving the immune abilities of the body.
This method is also called Enzyme Potentiated Desensitization (EPD). It was developed by Len McEwen, M.D. in London during the mid-60's. There is also a new form of this treatment called Low Dose Allergens (LDA).
During the treatment patients are given up to three injections every 60 days for a maximum period of 2 years. The extent of the treatment depends on the response of the patient to the therapy. The enzymes are suppose to enhance the Candida infection strength and may treat several other groups of allergens along the way.
The following is an outline of the EPD treatment:
Ten days prior to the first injection patients are given Sporanox, which is an anti fungal for systematic Candida, and De-Nol an anti- gastric ulcer agent that hinders the ability of Candida to plant its roots in the mucus linings of the intestinal tract.
Three days before the first injection patients go through a semi-fast where they avoid the intake of all food allergens. This is combined with the consumption of supplements like Zinc, Folic acid and Vitamin D3 to improve the effectiveness of the EPD treatment.
Response to the EPD treatment varies from patient to patient. In some cases the patient experiences a dramatic and sudden improvement that usually wears off with time. In other cases the patient needs to increase the doses through longer intervals until improvement is maintained.
But in all the cases EPD is not a lasting solution for Candida. The problem with EPD is that it only focuses on the dietary and allergy reactions factors that bring about Candida overgrowth. The effects of EPD wear off with time and in cases where there is a significant gut problem, bacterial infections, parasites or systematic Candida Albicans, this treatment method will not work.
The handicap of EPD is that it is a one-dimensional treatment. The only effective way to overcome Candida yeast infection is by eliminating all of the factors that contribute to Candida overgrowth and doing it in a holistic way, not just tackling one or two factors. When you eliminate the root cause of your yeast infection, all Candida related symptoms disappear forever, with the side benefits of increased energy, improved vision, health and well-being.
