"Can my insurance take care of my plastic surgery?" This is a very common question asked from our patients. Another popular question is "Are there alternate ways of paying besides cash up front?" This article will answer these questions and give more tips on getting money for your plastic surgery costs.
The first step to financing your plastic surgery is to do a little bit of research first, to find the approximate costs of your procedure. You can easily find a average rates for the most common procedures by searching online. Internet based data will vary according to regions and types of studies, but at least it gives you a general figure. After doing an online search, contact a few offices directly. Ask about their rates either on the phone or in person.
Next, examine your health insurance policy. What does it say specifically about plastic surgery? More often than not, cosmetic surgery is not usually covered by common health insurance plans. However, you should still look because healt plans vary widely. For example, some health insurance providers have been known to cover the cost of breast reduction surgery or other procedures that might have a bearing on immediate or long term health.
If your insurance plan does not cover your procedure, obviously you will need to provide for the costs all on your own. A simple approach is to simply save the money for your surgery, or use cash you already have. Saving the money may take a few short months if you can set aside a little bit of money each week or each month. Set up a budget and work towards your goals.
An alternative to saving is to ask your clinic about financing plans. Many offices will take payment plans, but it will be similar to getting a loan for a car, or a credit card. You will need to go through a credit application process. Just remember, it is important to not choose a plastic surgeon based only on their ability to offer a payment plan.
You might also look at available credit lines you currently have, like a credit card, or even a 2nd mortgage. Be prudent, and make sure you are not over extending yourself financially. And please consult your financial advisor before making any of these decisions.
Planning for cosmetic surgery involves both looking for the best procedure for your goals, the best surgeon to perform the procedure, and a smart way to finance it all.
