Fans of the Starcraft video game have been salivating over a sequel since 1998. That's a long time to wait - but it's been worth it because Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty is on the horizon and word on the street is - it's going to blow you away come July 27, 2010. And it will have translations in French, Spanish, Russian, Korean, Italian and Polish.

One of the top selling military strategy games ever, the original Starcraft has sold more than 11 million copies worldwide. The storyline is set in the 26th century and pits three species against one another.

The Terrans, the Zerg, and the Protoss. In Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, which will be released as Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows versions, the Terrans are the key species that are focused on. Terrans are humans that have been exiled from Mother Earth.

The Starcraft series will also unveil the expansion pack called Legacy of the Void (which will be all about the Protoss - who possess telepathic powers) and the expansion pack called Heart of the Swarm (whose focus will be the Zerg - insectoid genetic assimilators) and. The new Starcraft 2 series takes place a few years after Starcraft: Brood War occurs.

In the Wings of Liberty release, the gamer gets to follow Jim Raynor - who leads a group of insurgents against the Terran Dominion. Unlike Starcraft, the sequel is geared more toward multi-players.

You get matched up to players who are on the same level as you. And your game play is recorded so that you can go back over your game and review it for future strategizing. Single player gamers will get lots of built in customization features when they play.

One of the biggest changes - and some would say major upgrades - to the Starcraft game is that there will be an area called the Starcraft II Marketplace where premium maps are bought and sold for a small fee.

When the release date of July 27, 2010 comes, consumers will have many options on what version of the Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty Release game they want to buy. Aside from the digital download version they can immediately access from the Blizzard website, fans will also be able to contemplate whether they want the Standard or Collector's edition.

The collector's edition will have a cool 2GB flash drive that looks like the dog tag of Jim Raynor. It will come preloaded with Starcraft (the original version) and the Broodwar expansion pack, too. It will also have an art book, comic book, soundtrack, DVD and codes for downloadable perks.
