Anyone who cries teach me guitar or I want to learn guitar needs to first ask themselves the question just how much do I really want to learn guitar? If you are going to have any success learning to play guitar you really must be willing to give over a regular amount of time for learning and practice apart from of course having to pay the fees for your tuition itself.
I have been told that it could be possible to have someone teach me guitar in 3 weeks. Sorry that’s impossible, it can’t and it won’t happen. There is only one way of learning to play guitar and that involves a consistent time commitment to learn and practice That means learn a little then practice a lot. Learn a little more and then practice a lot more. At the start this really does mean little and often. Beginning with maybe just a couple of 30 minute periods a day will be a realistic starting point and will be a good way to get yourself used to the feel of your guitar without overloading yourself.
Keep the goal which you set yourself in mind. Visit it frequently and tell yourself often- I want to learn guitar and I will not stop learning to play guitar until I can play it and I can play it well. Importantly you must moderate that enthusiasm with some restraint. It is important that you do keep practice sessions short and sweet to start with. In the first days of learning to play guitar it is quite normal for the student to complain of aching hands and sore guitar fingers. It will take time for the arms, hands and particularly the fingers to get used to the rigours of playing the guitar and it is something that is best done gradually.
So how long will it take to teach me guitar? There is nobody that can answer that question with any degree of accuracy. Dedication and consistency can, when allied to good teaching and with 30 to 60 minutes of practice a day, deliver very satisfying results in about 6 months. After that dedication to learning and commitment to practice will deliver quicker and better results. This is only the start. Learning to play guitar is a lifetime’s journey. The more you play the guitar, the more you will find that you want to play guitar. The better you get the more satisfaction you will enjoy from it.
