Too many new guitarists are being turned away from the classical genre because of the internet. Classical guitar is a form of art when done well. The sound of such a graceful instrument being played exceptionally well can be quite taking.

So we probably shouldn’t rely on the internet for classical guitar classes?

True the internet has a lot of pertinent information. What's surprising is how hard it is to find good information on classical guitar, let alone find good classes to learn from!

I don’t mean to say that it is impossible to learn guitar online. in fact the internet is a great addition to traditional music lessons; but I think that old fashioned music lessons are the best way to learn the classical genre.

A good teacher can impart on you the emotions behind classical guitar. The sentiments that are the basis for classical guitar are not taught in the tabs found online.

Tab works just fine with some music, but for the classical genre sheet music is key. With sheet music you see exactly how the piece was originally played, so that you may play it with exact precision, this is indispensable for playing classical music.

Classical guitar is distinct from rock acoustic guitar in that it is played with a meticulous accuracy, while rock acoustic guitar just follows a basic chord pattern.

What is my point then?

I guess I am seeking to a get a broad point across. My message is it is ok to use the internet to learn acoustic guitar. But, and take note, only if you are unequivocally and absolutely certain that the course you have found online is communicating to you the material as truthfully as a professional instructor would teach you in classical guitar lessons.

I could be wrong. Maybe I am old fashioned in an increasingly digital world, and digital is to a large degree much more affordable.

To me quality is worth spending extra money, I could never be content with second rate when it comes to classical guitar. Now electric guitar is different, there are a lot of quality classes for it. Two that I would recommend looking into are Jamorama and Music Master Pro for good guitar classes.

These two courses are great, especially if you are a guitar beginner. The basics that you need can be quickly learned with the information and practice steps found in Jamorama. The possibility exists that you may discover some talent; if that happens you should find a skilled teacher to further advance your skills.
