What are Age Spots and How Can I Cure Them?
What Exactly Are Age Spots?
Age spots are darkened areas of the skin, ordinarily brown, grey, or dark tan in color. They can appear anywhere on the body, but are most widespread on the face and hands. They are akin to freckles as they are flat, discolored areas of the skin, but they are typically bigger in size and emerge more frequently as a individual and their skin ages.
Age spots can be a upsetting skin condition for both men and women as they are commonly found on the face and since they can make your skin tone uneven and the spots can stand out significantly from the rest of the skin. Other names for age spots include sun spots, liver spots, or in medical language Lentigo senilis or Solar lentigo.
What Causes Age Spots?
Age spots are occasionally referred to as "sun spots" because they are really caused by sun damage. Our skin contains cells called melanocytes, which are responsible for producing something called melanin, which is meant to defend our skin from the sun’s destructive ultraviolet rays by absorbing them. As a result the skin takes on a darker, â€Å"tan†look.
Several people consider bronzed skin healthful looking - but that may perhaps be further from the truth! Suntanned skin is damaged, unhealthy skin, and it is only darkened as it is attempting to defend the body from UV rays. This is particularly accurate for individuals who have inadequate melanin production to begin with. People of lighter skin tones are far more likely to develop age spots and other sun damage related skin troubles, whereas individuals with darker complexions do not need to worry as much.
Though, prolonged sun exposure is not beneficial for any sort of skin and can lead to premature aging. This is why age spots develop in older people. As the skin ages naturally over time, melanocytes lose their functioning ability, and cannot defend skin as capably. As a consequence, melanin production decreases, and â€Å"sun spots†or age spots as they are more usually called surface.
What Gets Rid Of Age Spots On My Face And Hands?
The best way to remedy age spots is to avoid their emergence in the first place. Using sun screen on a daily basis, on any skin that is exposed to sunlight is a prudent idea. You may think that since you do not sit in the sun you are safe. This is not accurate. Even folks who spend a lot of time driving can be exposed to sun destruction and must wear sunscreen.
However, if you have already developed age spots, there are creams that can whiten the affected areas, such as SkinBright skin brightener, or anti aging compounds that can repair injury and promote new cell growth. Outside that a visit to a dermatologist may learn you need more far-reaching treatment such as laser removal or surgery if the situation is severe.
Keep in mind that even as most age spots on your face and hands are not unsafe, they may well be a sign of skin cancer if they appear to be raised, changing color, shape, or size. If you have any concerns, see a medical doctor to be tested asap.
