Many people would start to get anxious even when they hear the words panic attack disorder because they completely know how uncomfortable it can be when person goes through such condition. Can you just picture yourself having panic episodes just after having a lunch in a crowded restaurant with your close friends? Along with the discomforts and unwanted manifestations, you might also feel humiliated in public. How and what triggers panic attacks and what are the available means to cure it?
What triggers a panic attack? Panic episodes are caused by lots of factors and most of them are different from other triggering factors of other patients. There are some initiating factors though that is commonly observed in many patients. One of those initiating factors is increasing levels of emotional stress. Stress, may it be mental, physical or emotional, if not settled could result to panic attacks.
Furthermore, personal loss can also activate your attacks. It can be due to a loss of a loved one, a job or even a pet; anything important that is taken away from you gives a lot of stress. Bear in mind that panic disorders are primarily caused by stress and a circumstance or event that is building tension and stress can turn into another panic episode.
Lastly, there are some drugs that could initiate this disorder. You need not to be concerned anymore because doctors have claimed that panic attacks after taking such medications are only the initial reaction of the body, and when you get the hang of it, it won't persist anymore. Although that's the case, it is still wise to ask your doctor about the drugs your are taking.
As I have mentioned above, panic attacks have unfavorable manifestations. Some of them are shortness of breath, heart palpitations, trembling, increase perspiration, nausea and vomiting. For some individuals, these symptoms are just too unbearable especially the shortness of breath. The moment the panic episodes start to occur, most sufferers feel as if they are drowning and this is the primary reason.
To counteract those unpleasant symptoms, there are some therapies that you can try. Among those is the breathing therapy in which you are taught how to do the correct breathing technique. Breathing with the use of pursed lips will most likely be taught and practiced. It is performed by breathing deeply using the nose and exhaling slowly with the lips pursed. It may be an easy technique but can be difficult to do during the attack.
Cognitive behavioral therapy is another famous therapy. From the term itself, this therapy aims to link your thoughts with your actions. The thoughts I am referring to do not need to be your present thought, they can also be problems or issues in the past that are still affecting your behavior today. It may demand lots of time but it will surely offer great outcomes.
Now that you have fruitfully identified what triggers panic attacks and what means you can do to manage them, I am pretty sure that you can successfully overcome panic attacks soon. There is really no need to be concerned that much since this disorder will just attack you more if you let it affect you.
