Birthday Gift Ideas

Birthday gift ideas are sometimes tough to come by when you need a birthday gift for the person who has everything. Remember that the best idea for a birthday gift is to give the person something that is personal and reminds the receiver how close you are and how much you love the person. So forget about the superficial gift ideas. It doesn't have to be expensive or flashy, but it absolutely needs to be sentimental. Put some thought into who the person really is and what the person really enjoys, and you'll always pick the perfect gift.
For example, my brother is very difficult to buy a gift for, because (like me) he works a lot and doesn't take off a lot of time off for personal activities. But he and his wife both love movies. In fact, they built a custom home theater for their house a few years back that has all of the bells and whistles. When he and I were kids, we used to go "movie hopping" at the dollar theater by our house. We used to see one or two features every Saturday night. We would collect coke bottles throughout the week and save up our money to get that awesome movie theater popcorn (remember when they used to pop it in coconut oil?) We didn't always have enough money to get the movie theater popcorn, so it was a special occasion when were able to splurge. Remembering that staple of our childhood, I found a store online that sells old-fashioned movie theater popcorn, so I ordered a basket and included a couple of tickets to his local movie theater. For about $35, I got him something really special.
Let's say you're looking for a gift for a sportsman -- maybe someone who likes to play golf. Well, chances are, he or she probably has their favorite golf balls and clubs, so a more thoughtful gift might be to call one of the posh golf clubs in the area and ask if they have a guest pass that can be given as a birthday gift idea. A lot of members only clubs are often looking for new members, so they will likely have something that will fit the bill. That experience will be something that the person will remember and be very thankful for. Make the gift certificate for either two or four people, and the golfer can bring along a golfing buddy or three for a nice treat.
Sometimes, the gifts that mean the most don't cost a thing. When my daughter was about seven-years-old, she gave me a stack of cards that she cut out of construction paper and hand decorated with crayons and glitter that she called "Hug Cards". She said that whenever I have a bad day, just come to her with a hug card, and she'd give me a big hug to make me feel better. Then she turned to me and whispered, "Dad, you don't really have to wait until you have a bad day," and smiled. It was so sweet, that I think that I used them all up right there. I did keep one, though, because I figure that one day, she's going to be all grown up, and I'll be able to put it good use.
Remember that the perfect gift has nothing to do with the money that you spend. Instead, the best gift ideas are those where, once they are given, the thoughtfulness of the gift idea speaks for itself. Think about the personality of the person who you are giving the birthday gift to, and you'll come up with a fantastic birthday gift idea.
