What is the difference between panic and anxiety attacks? Actually, there is a very narrow line between these two conditions. Even specialists use these terms interchangeably. Even in the medical field, there is only a small depiction between the two. If I were to choose between anxiety attack versus panic attacks, I will still prefer the former even they only have a little variation.
You may wonder why anxiety attacks are better than panic attacks. That is because the former is milder than the latter. It is milder in the sense that the manifestations are not very uncomfortable and often times endurable. Studies show that a person in mild anxiety widens his perspective and helps the person think well.
There are scientific explanations available on how anxiety do good to a person. Let me start by telling you that every time you feel uneasy or threatened, your brain will trigger the sympathetic nervous response for the body to be ready. When this reaction is triggered, your pupils dilate, your heart pumps faster thus there is more blood supply to organs of the body, and blood is shunted or redirected to vital organs.
When all of those responses occur in the body, the person then becomes more alert. This kind of alertness makes you move faster in any situation as it helps you think better. Yet, if your anxiety continues to increase, it will become difficult for you to manage everything that is going around already. You will develop an upset stomach, lack or appetite and periods of insomnia. All those things can definitely slow you down.
Although those symptoms seem to be extreme, they are nothing compared to what you will feel during a panic attack. The most common symptoms of this disorder are hyperventilation, tachycardia, excessive sweating and even loss of consciousness. During an attack you will feel as if your chest has tightened up and you cannot catch your breath. In some extreme, yet rare, cases you may also have a cardiac arrest. However, this only applies to patients who already have an underlying cardiac condition.
There are several causes for panic attacks and some of those are genetics, your very own personality, your environment or medication. Unfortunately, studies have already proven that indeed, such condition can really be passed on to the next. Moreover, if you are the kind of person who does not know how to express his or her negative thoughts - or maybe you are in an environment that will not allow you to do that - you are at risk for developing this disorder.
Accordingly, there are also several treatment regimens for this disorder. The most effective is the cognitive behavioral therapy. There would be some instances that your behavior today is affected by some concerns and problems that are unsettled that is why this therapy will help you identify them along with a therapist. It is very useful for it will help you identify the root cause of your disorder.
Anxiety attack versus panic attack? There are only a little difference between the two. However, regardless of your disorder, you need to learn how you can handle it as soon as possible to avoid further aggravation of the problem.
