Maipú is the main city of the department with the same name, settled in a region called Gran Mendoza. It is an excellent place to visit within the province of Mendoza, due to its huge variety of attractions and its touristic infrastructure. Besides, it is only 14 kilometers away from Mendoza´s 4 Stars Hotel.
Maipú has 12 departments, including one called Ciudad. Bordered on the North by Guaymallén y Lavalle, on the East by San Martin, on the Southeast by Junín, on the Southwest by Luján de Cuyo and on the West by Godoy Cruz, Maipú has a warm climate, with temperatures that reach highs of 43° C and lows of -9°C.
Maipú is known for its vineyards and wineries, with a total of 167, with 86 actually active. In this town we can choose one of the two available circuits and follow the Wine Route, and, in the last week of January we can enjoy the Harvest Festival. During the previous week, the Blessing of the Fruit is celebrated, along with the presentation of the Queens and many other cultural and artistic shows. The central act can be separated in two stages, the first one with dancing, music, lights and sound; and the second one with the Election of the Maipú Harvest Queen.
A couple of kilometers away from Maipú we can reach Guaymallén, one of the oldest cities in Mendoza province. One of the most interesting parts of the town is Colonial Guaymallén, where 19th century houses can be seen and visited. In particular, the Molina Pico´s house-museum was built in 1780.
The Harvest Festival of Guaymallén is held between December and March. In this festivity the residents dedicate to a vast diversity of outdoor activities in campings and clubs, such as games, folk dancing, sports and shows. The festival finishes with a big celebration where the Guaymallén Harvest Queen is elected and everyone gets to enjoy some regional wines in an environment of music, light and fun.
In Guaymallén municipal pools, diving lessons are taught, as well as games especially planned for water. And for the kids, there are some farms to visit and watch and touch the animals. Those who enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the capital, can have a great time in the Plaza Shopping and its modern structure before returning to the Mendoza’s 4 Stars Hotel.
