There are 3 tips on how to take care of your flashlights effectively and efficiently to increase use in them for a longer period of time. All it takes is a few simple pieces of advice in flashlight care for you to save money from buying new flashlights every year.
First, the storage of a flashlight is more important than anyone thinks. Its funny how more flashlights are lost because they are not stored properly, which is probably why you keep having to buy a new one to replace the one you misplaced somewhere in your house, car, or during a trip.
It is advisable to label your flashlight with your name and address, especially if you travel with it a lot to other places. It is also advisable to designate a specific area in the house where you place your flashlight so that anyone in the house knows exactly where it is when needed. Always make it a habit to return the flashlight to its rightful storage area so that you don't keep misplacing it.
It is best to store your flashlight in a clean, dry, and cool area away from any harsh temperatures. You can store them at different points in your home so that when there is an emergency, there is one available close at hand.
Second, you may have a flashlight, but end up running out of batteries at the least expected moment. Always have a fresh set of new batteries stored next to the flashlight so that you can change the batteries when needed. If the batteries are rechargeable, keep the batteries recharged, but don't allow your flashlight to be plugged in for extended periods of time continuously. Check batteries periodically to make sure they work.
Third, many people forget to care for the o-ring of the flashlight that not only protects the bulb, but also protects the batteries and inner mechanisms from moisture and damage. You can buy a silicone grease that you can use to lube the o-rings periodically to keep them airtight. Lubing them will increase their use-life for more than you may expect.
Having a flashlight is incredibly useful in any home, especially when you experience the occasional electricity failure and black-out in the area. Always stay prepared and follow there flashlight care tips to keep you on the right track to keeping your home safe and lighted when you need it most.
