Coffee is one of the world's most well liked beverages. Some claim it is consumed more than any other liquid in the world,,,,except water. People drink it at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and any other time of the day.
Coffee is more than a drink. It is an anticipation of soothing times and humble delight woven into our daily lives. Filling the room with its aroma, coffee makes an everlasting memory. The success of coffee, as a beverage, is owed to the caffeine within and to the pleasures it brings your senses. We, as coffee lovers, tend to associate the lift it gives us from the caffeine to the rich aromas of the tasty brew.
The coffee seed (most commonly called a bean), which coffee is made from, is small and red and occasionally, yellow. The seed comes from a fruit that grows on plants that can grow to about 30 feet. The tree is pruned to somewhere between a bush and a tree. The tree is covered in green waxy leaves that grow in pairs. It takes nearly a year for the fruit to mature from blossoms.
There are your common variety grocery store coffees and then there are your Single Origin blends, Signature Blends, Fair Trade blends, Organic Blends, and Flavored Blends. The latter five make your best coffee.
Single Origin blends are just what they imply. They come from a single geographic region of the world. It could be Africa, Columbia, the Congo, or any other state, area, or city. It could even be a distinct farm within a country. Many times, these beans are grown exclusively on estates in small neighborhoods.
Signature Blends are usually a labor of love for the astonishing taste that can be created. They are a combination of Single Origin gourmet coffee beans providing unique flavors. Some beans offer intensity and body while others bring sharpness and clarity to the flavor.
Fair Trade coffee guarantees that coffee farmers are paid a reasonable price for their hard work. Fair Trade Certification gives the farmers and farm workers a chance to lift themselves out of hardship by investing in their farms and communities, protecting the environment, and developing the business skills necessary to compete in the global marketplace. Our selections of Fair Trade Certified Coffee help to promote sustainability and eco-friendly growing practices. The beans are from certified producers that embrace traditional, sustainable practices in every step of production.
Organic coffee is grown without herbicides, pesticides or agrochemical fertilizers and helps maintain a healthy environment not only for the coffee farmers in coffee regions but for all of us, everywhere. Some studies indicate that organically grown coffee decreases the risk of type II diabetes, a disease that affects over 24 million people in America.
Flavored blends are what they imply. The beans are roasted and flavored to bring a taste to tantalize the palate.
The process that makes a beverage out of the seeds is long and multifaceted. It may be the most complex process in creating a drink. This development is rigorous and severely labor intensive. It starts with a relationship with an intercontinental grower. From there, it is handpicked and then sent to a mill where workers carefully remove the bean from the fruit and dry the bean. Once the bean is dried, it is cleaned and graded. Next, the bean is roasted, and finally ground into the powder we see. However, some consumers buy the beans whole and grind it themselves. Once the bean is ground, it is made into the rich tasty beverage that fills a room with its aromatic smells.
The outcome is determined by each and every step along the way. If passion and accuracy is used, the final product is one that stimulates your senses and caresses your palate. If carelessness is the way, the product will be one that is dull and forgettable.
