Bodybuilding supplements play a big part in achieving your dream physique if you are a bodybuilder. But which ones will deliver the most results, which ones are best for you? This article tries to provide some guidance.
Bodybuilding supplements range from protein to creatine and weight gain powders. There are a lot more of supplements but I will concentrate on these.
Supplements are called supplements for a reason, they are an addition to your diet. If you are a hard gainer then you probably will not have a big appetite so supplements can play a big part in helping you gain weight as they can up your total calorie intake.
Supplements can also help you with other aspects of your training, not just nutrition. For example you can take nitric oxide to help you achieve the pump. Caffeine supplements can also be taken to increase your focus and performance down the gym.
Protein supplements
You can have different types of protein such as whey, milk, egg and soya. We need protein supplements because it is hard to get enough protein from food: protein powders. Next to the ingredients mentioned, they can contain buckwheat protein, goat milk protein, casein protein, and others.
Weight gain supplements
If you have trouble eating enough calories during the day, then weight gain supplements are a great way to increase your total calorific intake. They also come in the form of powders. I would suggest that you try and find a weight gain shake that has around 600 calories in it, as you should find them easier to drink and not feel as bloated and sick.
Creatine
Creatine has received the most publicity in the past years. In a nutshell creatine supplements help you recover quicker in between sets and helps with an increased volume of work. Creatine is a nitrogenous organic acid, and is synthesised by a 2 step process involving 3 amino acids: arginine, glycine and methionine. It provides the initial energy source when your muscles start to contract, it is primarily produced in the liver, where it is released in to the blood and then stored in the muscles.
These are a few of the bodybuilding supplements you can take. There are a lot more, but the above 3 are the basics that everyone should start with. Over time, you can add glutamine, nitric oxide, BCAA’s (branched chain amino acids) and multi vitamins.
I believe that once you have basic understanding of what each supplement does then you can make informed decisions on what to buy and not let the supplement companies make the decision for you.
