Making a decision regarding which are the best used 2007 SUVs is more than just a little subjective. The make and model of SUV that is best for you may not be the best for the next consumer. Still, there are some factors that are universal - no matter what used vehicle you're considering. One, you want to know that the vehicle is in the best condition so you have it thoroughly inspected by a professional mechanic. Two, you verify the vehicle history by obtaining a report. Three, the vehicle has to meet most of your needs - and fit your budget.
Automotive sources publish reports of the best used vehicles. Consumer Reports lists its choices in various price range categories in its "Best Used Vehicles for Under $20,000." Edmunds has its "2010 Used Car Best Bets" for the best vehicles in various categories covering years 2003-2008. Our picks for best used 2007 SUVs are taken from these two lists - and augmented with comments from other automotive experts.
-
Honda CR-V - A double winner, the 2007 Honda CR-V compact crossover SUV appears on both the Edmunds and Consumer Reports lists. That's certainly not hard to fathom, given Honda's reputation for quality, reliability, and overall customer satisfaction. This family-friendly SUV is a comfortable vehicle that's also a good cargo hauler and is very fuel efficient. Edmunds, in detailed comments on the 2007 model, says: "Look past the conservative exterior styling and you'll find the best-designed small SUV in this price range when it comes to interior aesthetics and day-to-day practicality. Build and materials quality leads the class."
-
Mitsubishi Outlander - The all-new second-generation 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander compact crossover SUV so impressed Motor Week that editors commented at the time: "Even after adding on the upgrades, the Outlander looks to be the V6 bargain of its compact crossover class. Higher style, more car-like response, and clever features, are efforts in the right direction. Enough so that not only do we think a lot more people will notice the 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander, they likely will drive home one as well."
-
Ford Edge - Consumer Reports lists the 2007 Ford Edge midsize crossover SUV in the $18,000-$20,000 price range category of best used SUVs (under $20,000), and for good reason. First introduced in 2006, the 2007 model was named one of AAA and Parents magazine's Best Cars for Families and finished in the top 10 for Motor Trend's Car of the Year award. Cars.com observes: "The Edge is a comfortable, quick, smooth-riding light SUV with five seats and fresh styling. Even though it's a crossover, its gas mileage isn't what it could be and it lacks the third row of seats… On its own merits, though, it's definitely worthy of consideration for shoppers seeking a midsize SUV."
-
Chevrolet Tahoe - Consumer Guide has consistently awarded the Chevrolet Tahoe, and its sibling GMC Yukon, as Best Buys. For the 2007 model, Consumer Guide observes: "Chevrolet's redesign of this large SUV addresses the most egregious flaws of its predecessor: sloppy steering and subpar interior appointments. Third-row accommodations are still best suited to children, but for smooth power, utility, and surprising overall refinement, Tahoe is a Best Buy among large SUVs." Edmunds points to Tahoe's "roomy cabin that can seat up to nine and fairly nimble handling for such a bulky vehicle."
