Most people are not afraid to spend the money on a good suit. However, these same people usually have very little understanding on how to maintain these suits in top condition. Follow our guide to help you maintain your suits in the best condition that it can be.
Many suits are thrown out not because they are worn down, but simply because they are faded. This can be hard to avoid, especially if it is worn frequently. One of the best things to keep in mind, is to never ever leave a suit out in the sun to dry. Always take them to the dry cleaner. Even dry cleaning too often will leave to degradation of the suit. On many occasions, if the suit is simply odored because of a night out in town after work, then a simply refresh in a dryer is enough to bring it back to life. Put the suit in the dryer and let it run for about 10 minutes. Be careful to not apply any heat to the dryer, since heat can damage the suit. This will allow it to air out and get rid of any smells in the suit.
Secondly, be wary of how the suit is hung in the cupboard. Never keep the suit exposed to the open air, if you plan to store it in the cupboard for more than a few months. Always buy a suit sleeve and cover it up, before you get dust and mildew onto it. These can severely damage the suit over time. Keep in the mind the shape of the hanger that is used to hang the suit. Spend the money and get some with proper shape and ensure the size is not too large or too small for the shoulders. If you choose a size which is too large, then you will damage the form of the suit, and leave the shoulder pinched in the corners.
How you wear the suit is also important. Change your daily routine so that the last thing you do is to put on your suit before leaving your home. Try not to wear the jacket while bending over to tie up your laces. Even hanging them up immediately after arrive home, is a good habit, rather than leaving the jackets and pants lying all over the home.
For the ultimate stylish look, invest in a stylish vest extension when you are on the road. Alternatively, look for a trendy logo for your vest.
