Longshot horse betting can sometimes require the horse bettor to be patient. However, picking longshot horses can be vey profitable. You pick favorites to win, but not to make a bundle of money. Thus, what is a good system for picking longshot horses in horse race betting?
Many times the best race horse to bet against at a racetrack is the favorite if you want to make a huge profit. To many horse bettors, that statement may sound strange since we know that favorites win about a third of the time. However, if you want to make a bundle of money at horse betting then you can not be betting favorites every race, you need to pick some longshot horses. Usually a racehorse is the longshot because the public has ignored a horse and have made a horse a favorite by putting money behind the favorite horse. Thus, think about this question, "How many times do you think the public ends the year in the black in horse racing betting"? As a rule, the answer is none since the public does not win in the long term when it comes to horse betting but horse bettors that pick longshot horses often have a chance at making a huge profit.
You will often find that horse racing favorites are priced too low and are thus not a value pick. That is why most horse bettors that pick favorites to win do not make any money by betting them even though favorites do win about a third of the time. Betting on horse favorites is a loser for many horse bettors. Most favorites lose when you find wagering factors going against them. Thus, the best way to find a weak favorite versus a possible longshot horse winner is by looking at past performances. By doing this, you will find the weak favorite in the horse race and be able to pick the possible longshot horse to give you the chance to make a profit in horse wagering.
If you are looking on picking the longshot horse you need to do a few basic things when considering longshot bets. They are:
-
You must look at a horse in terms of class. Does the longshot horse have the potential to seriously compete in the class of today's horserace?
-
Has the longshot horse run on a similar track
-
How is the longshot horse form been in the past few races
-
Can the longshot horse handle today’s racetrack conditions
-
Does the longshot horse have a good trainer and jockey? Many longshot horses have solid jockeys and trainers.
If during your handicapping, you can find that a favorite does not do well on some of the above questions then you should seriously look at betting against the horse and look at picking the longshot horse. Do not forget that the price of the horse also is a factor when picking longshot horses to bet on at a racetrack. If you find in your handicapping that a favorite who is at low race odds and has any question marks then you know it could be a vulnerable horse and picking the longshot horse could be worth a look.
Picking the longshot horses in many races can make you profitable at horse racing. Take the time to analyze the horse race and look for weak favorites and bet against those horses if there is a longshot horse in the horserace.
If you place exotic bets, then I strongly recommend that you put a longshot horse into your exacta, trifecta, superfecta Pick 3 or even Pick 6 tickets.
