Front doors have to be tough enough to withstand, rain, wind, scotching sun and most especially be able to keep away intruders, yet remain attractive enough to make a first good impression. However getting all these qualities from a door can be a difficult task. Most doors made from wood or wood veneer, can crack, warp and delaminate from exposure to the mentioned elements over a long period of time.
Wooden doors come in various types and styles. Therefore choosing the most appropriate door for a house involves making a number of choices through out the process. One way of getting quality doors is through doing some comparison shopping. This involves visiting several stores that have a wide selection of wood doors, then locating a reputable and experienced manufacturer or door dealer.
These stores have experienced staff that are knowledgeable and can help choose the perfect door or advice on options that you had not previously considered. They can also give you informed answers on questions that you may have in order to make the right decision. Some of these decisions may include choosing between hollow or solid core wooden doors. Hollow core doors are made from fiberboards that have holes or gaps in them. A buyer might opt for hollow core doors because they are cheaper than other wooden doors and are also lighter in weight, however they are not as durable as other doors. Solid wood doors on the other hand are more durable and very attractive, this is because they are made from a selection of woods such as hickory, oak and mahogany. These doors however are more costly.
Other decision that buyers have to make is the style of the door panel. Wooden doors come in a variety of door panel styles, from four and six panel doors, to embellished or plain door panel styles. This choice will possibly depend on the style of the buyer’s house and what would go well with it.
Local weather and temperature also has to be considered in choosing the right wooden door. This is because wooden doors contract and expand with changes in the weather. It is therefore advisable to choose wooden doors with fiber board panels. These kinds of doors are able to overcome changes in temperature and weather.
