The term "Spyware removal" is used to describe the removal of independent, executable software programs that have the capability to covertly gather information about the user via their Internet connection.
This data (usually procured for marketing and advertising purposes) is gathered in a variety of ways, most commonly by spying on the applications that are already installed on the users computer. These programs include (but are not exclusive to) word processors, web browsers and instant messaging programs such as Windows messenger.
If you are experiencing any unusual activity, such as web pages changing by themselves or pop up ads appearing regularly, then it is possible that a spyware program may be operating on your system and that spyware removal may be necessary.
Why spyware removal is vital.
Rather worryingly, spyware programs also have the ability to scan the files stored on your hard drive, read browser cookies and monitor keystrokes. This enables the program to silently collect all of your private information including e-mail addresses, passwords and even credit card numbers. Once this sensitive information is collected, it is then delivered back to the spyware creator who will either sell the information on to a third party or use it for their own advertising and marketing purposes.
Where does spyware come from?
Spyware applications are often cleverly concealed within freeware or shareware programs that are downloaded from the Internet. Although these programs are a common source of spyware, this should not inspire panic. The majority of freeware and shareware programs available online are free from spyware, with most applications on offer being provided by reputable companies and available to download from trustworthy sources.
Always read the small print.
Unlike Trojan horse viruses which are unwittingly installed without the users permission, some spyware programs are actually downloaded and installed with the users prior consent. In some cases, within the licence agreement (often hidden amongst confusing legal jargon) you may see a disclaimer which informs you in advance that a spyware program will be installed on your system. Before agreeing to the terms and conditions of any freeware or shareware program download, always read the licensing agreement carefully.
Performance issues.
Besides the obvious concerns about privacy and security, spyware programs run constantly in the background, using up valuable memory resources and bandwidth and harming your computers overall performance.
What should you do if you suspect that spyware is running on your system?
If you suspect that spyware is running on your system then you should consider contacting a spyware removal specialist. Using a spyware removal service is the best way to ensure that your system secure and that your personal details remain safely guarded.
