Order fulfillment is the process which includes the manufacturing of the goods from raw materials up to delivery of the same to the customer so that the customer may be satisfied from the services for taking further business from him. In other words order fulfillment is a whole procedure starting from the sale of anything till the delivery of the product. In broader term it is an approach which an organization or a firm may use for making the orders delivering it to the customers and pleasing them with their services.
There are several approaches towards fulfillment of an order. Order fulfillment had its early researches towards the 1980s by Mather and he came up with a PD ratio strategy for several basic fulfillment options. Some of the order fulfillment options are as follows:
Engineering – to - Order (ETO): when you have a complete plane regarding your product and you have made up a product for the entire satisfaction of your ultimate users. Mostly this approach has been use for large construction orders and it required great amount of hard work for getting your desired results.
Build- to- Order (BTO): Basically, the manufactured goods are designed keeping in mind the standard design of the product. But, as per the clients’ proposals, the necessary alterations are made. This form of fulfillment is generally used for huge aircraft and motor-vehicles.
ATO: "Assemble to Order" this technique has been used which have been used by the Dell company to customize the computer system for fulfillment of its order and for satisfaction of the customers. The creation is manufactured and designed as per prerequisite prescribed by the customer from the existing stock components.
Digital Copy is also a technique described by the Mather for order fulfillment, it involves maintaining of products and inventory maintained on-demand and saved on storage devices.
Digital Copy: This is a digital copy of products and stocks which is saved on storage device on demand of the customer to satisfy him.
The order fulfillment includes a complete process which is always carried out based on the customers’ stipulations. Fulfillment of the order involves a complete process which includes the product inquiry, order booking, order delivery and returns being just a few of them.
The order fulfillment warehouses, accept the shipping requests through web based applications. Once the request for shipping is received, the products are packaged and delivered at once to the customer. You can then, check the status of your order in the warehouses online. Some warehouses even provide order tracking numbers to their customers.
