Whether you want to bake the most scrumptious cakes, blend a fruit smoothie or roll freshly-made pasta into spaghetti or fettuccine strips, you'd want to invest in a good quality food mixer. A kitchen appliance that basically does your mixing, beating, folding and kneading for you, mixers make cooking a breeze. And they give the added benefit of making your kitchen look fancy.
Expert chefs, novice cooks and even housewives and husbands who need to prepare dinner always appreciate the help offered by a food mixer. When pressed for time, these contraptions are easy to have around and offer convenience for all the right reasons.
Mixers come in two types: handheld and stand. As its name implies, handheld mixers are electrically-powered contraptions that whisks, beats and mixes food while being held by the hand via a handle mounted over a large enclosure which houses the motor. One or two beaters mix the food. Stand mixers, meanwhile, are what you see used on cooking shows on TV. These mixers feature a stand which bears the weight of the device. Generally bigger, these mixers have powerful motors compared to the hand-held varieties. They also come with special bowls that can hold anywhere from 4 liters to more than a 100 liters (for commercial purposes).
If you're in the market for a food mixer, there are basically four things you want to look for: Features, quality, speed and price. The usual home mixer will have whipping, mixing and kneading features. But newer models now boast of added functions that include, among others, chopping and grinding. Others even have juicing features. Look for a large feeding tube so it can take whole fruits and veggies without you having to cut them and waste precious time. Also, make sure that the mixer you get can easily be disassembled and cleaned. With all the chopping and grinding that it's going to do, you need one that you can take apart, clean and put back together in minutes. Otherwise, you're going to be harboring bacteria in your very own kitchen.
Quality is another area in food mixers that you want to put particular emphasis on. If your budget allows, go for solid metal casings and durable and powerful motors. These give smoother work compared to cheaper versions. They are quiet tools as well. For heavy-duty mixing, you would want to invest in sturdy machines that will have a permanent space in your kitchen. Make sure that your mixers have wide and stable bases so they don't go spinning on their own all over the place.
Speed is another thing you'd want to consider in your mixer. Make sure that the one you will buy allows you to choose from a variety of speed settings so you can adjust them to suit a particular task. Having a variety of speed levels to choose from makes a blender more versatile.
In anything, price will always be a consideration. When buying a kitchen implement such as a food mixer, don't just consider affordability. Certainly, you will have to buy one that is within your budget, but strive to find the best one in your price range. Whether you choose fancier models or the more basic one, always opt for the mixer that gives you more value for your money. To find out what this is, do your research and read online reviews before actually making your purchase.
