It can’t be denied that LED lighting is pretty beneficial not just to people but also big business and social groups as well. LED stands for light-emitting diode, which itself is a semiconductor light source and since the year 1962, it has been adapted widely for various types of equipment to serve several purposes that require lights. Today, LED lighting is widely used for different purposes such as automotive lighting, in traffic signals and in aviation. LED lights are known to be reliable due to it having adjustable switching speed, narrow bandwidth and compact size to name a few. Regardless of its shape and size, a LED is composed of a wire bond, reflective cavity, epoxy lens, a semiconductor die, an anvil post (the lead frame), a flat spot or surface, cathode (negative) and anode (positive).
There are many advantages of today’s LED lighting thanks to its reliability, smart design and flexibility. For one thing they are proven to be highly efficient when it comes to energy use and because of this traffic signal lights use them extensively and at the same time operate longer and better. A red traffic signal from the signal light that uses incandescent light consumes 150 watts at least, while a signal light equipped with LED consumes just 10 watts while giving the same red light signal. By taking into account the amount of time that red signal lights are used daily, LEDs are indeed more economical and practical in the long run. Today, LED is present in over 90% of traffic light signals across the nation. Other than energy efficiency, LEDs are also well known for being able to display a wide range of colors on lighting. Certain manufacturers that specialize on colored lights use LEDs (specifically variable intensity type of LEDs) on certain products that are capable of displaying over sixteen million colors.
Also worth noting is that fact that LED are very durable and their daily use can last from fifty thousand hours to as long as one hundred thousand hours. That is a hundred times better than incandescent lights and around ten times better than fluorescents. Last but not least, LEDs also generate lesser heat compared to other lights and LEDs also cool down at a faster rate even after prolonged us. This advantage alone makes it safer to use. With all of these advantages combined, LED lighting is simply here to stay and it will continue to benefit people, business and society in general for generations to come.
