Home of the Ford Mustang
Flat Rock is the home of Auto Alliance International, a unique cooperative between Ford Motor Company and Mazda Motor Corporation. Since 2005, these two auto makers have shares an auto production line that simultaneously manufactures the American icon Ford Mustand and the sporty Mazda 6.
Began as a Wyandot Settlement
The first settlers in the Flat Rock area where the Wyandot (also called the Huron) people. Between 1811 and 1820 the first Euro-American settlers arrived when Michael Vreeland and his five sons purchased and settled 800 acres in the Flat Rock region. This family was the namesake of this region, as the Village of Vreeland, until 1838 when they sold much of their land holdings in the region.
Scenic Huroc Park and Greenways Connector
Huroc Park, along the banks of the Huron River, is one of the most beautiful attractions of Flat Rock. This gorgeous bend in the river has attracted everyone from the Wyandot people to Henry Ford to settle and invest in this little town.
Huroc Park is now one of the centerpieces of the community, host to several events and festivals each year, and a key connector in the Michigna Greenways Initiative.
Downriver's Best Community Center
Flat Rock has one of the most unique and full featured community centers in the Downriver area. Nestled in the woods along the Michigan Greenways trails, this community center has a rustic lodge venue and feel. Inside you can enjoy swimming, running, basketball, volleyball, weight-lifting, senior activities, or throw a business or wedding reception in a banquet facility that will hold hundreds.
Great Restaurants
Small yes, but full of unique eateries. Some of the more famous include Kate's Kitchen (for mouth watering pies), Julio's Mexican Grille (for the best Mexican South of Mexican Twon), Bashar's Middle Eastern Cuisine (for exotic Falafel, Shawarma, and Hummus), and Tasty Boy Donuts (for real, fresh donuts the old fashioned way).
