Are you searching for advice constructing a rabbit hutch? If like me you have spent endless hours searching on the internet & reading magazine publishers only to find that you are left with more questions than answers take a few minutes to read this information & in a short time you will see how the Indoor Rabbit Hutch Plans I stumbled upon assisted me to build a hutch in quick easy steps…..
One day my son came home asking for a rabbit for his birthday, we decided on the dwarf lop eared rabbit. But having kept dogs all my life I had no idea about looking after rabbits. So I hit the keyboard for a little research. I found out that as rabbits are fairly social animals, general opinion seems to be that it's recommended to have two as one will become lonely.
I soon realised this could cost some serious money as the hutch would have to be a fair size to house 2 rabbits & provide them with enough of space to exercise when we were not around to watch over them hopping around free range. This led me to thinking it would probably be better to build one myself, that way I could make it just the way I wanted.
As my wife & I wanted to guarantee the safety of the new additions to the family the consensus was to for an indoor hutch. The one thing neither of us wanted was after a bad spell of weather for my son to go outside and find the poor rabbits huddled, shivering in the corner of the hutch.
So there I was needing to find an Indoor Rabbit Hutch Plan that would put my woodworking skills to good use as quickly as possible. As luck would have it I came across a great site & was able to make a hutch with multi levels & ramps which provided enough space for our rabbits to play in. It provided a safe place from the dangers of chewing hazardous electric cables, carpets & leaping on furniture when we were not able to watch over them.
I will let you know more about the site shortly, firstly let me share a few tips I learned about looking after rabbits.
By having your rabbits neutered you will prevent unwanted litters & issues with fighting.
Rabbits can make good house pets as they love company. You will have to provide an outdoor run as well because they also need natural light, need daily exercise & therefore shouldn't be kept indoors all the time.
Male Rabbits are usually more even tempered & predictable
If you go for a longhaired variety it will require more grooming.
Some of the common breeds can grow quite large, so always get expert advice
Do not overfeed
Never give your rabbit grass clippings, lettuce or potatoes as this can potentially cause health problems.
All rabbits will need to exercise properly every day, make sure it is kept entertained by encouraging natural behaviour. This can be done by having a pipe in the hutch to burrow or a box with some shredded paper in for excavating.
Hygiene – Be sure to clean the hutch on a regular basis and provide clean dry bedding.
Never use household disinfectant get a rabbit friendly one from a pet store.
