No more than 60 miles separates the island of Fuerteventura, second largest of the Canary Islands from the African continent. This cloudless isle shares identical climate conditions with the infamous resorts such as Florida and Mexico. Unlike other resorts that have suffered from over development, Fuerteventura is fairly undiscovered with plenty of spectacular terrain to explore. Offering over 150 tranquil sandy beaches it is easy to find your own slice of Fuerteventura isolation during your stay.
The island has a bone-dry volcanic terrain, and excluding the beaches, little to offer it in the direction of sightseer facilities or attractions. This has kept back the mega resorts and mass summer package vacation business at a distance; however it does appear to attract a lot of day-trippers from Lanzarote and Gran Canaria who arrive in search of a breather from the crowds. The island's two central resort towns are Corralejo and Caleta Del Fuste. Fuerteventura is readily accessible from the alternative islands of the archipelago by boat or airplane. The airport is situated close to the island's capital Puerto Del Rosario.
Visitors do not have to go far in Fuerteventura to discover a flawless beach, even if you are intent on looking for privacy beyond other tourists. The best is close to Jandia, on the southern peak of the island. Juan Gomez is another one of these, with an expanse of golden sand only reached by the Morro Jable-Punta de Jandia route. In the same area of the island is the stony black volcanic coast of La Pared, a truly unforgettable sight and one of the most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura.
An ideal outing for all the family is Baku Park has a water park with leisurely slides and shallow pools for kids and Parque Europe, which opens in the evening offering various exhibitions and entertainment. The small fishing community on the east coastline of Fuerteventura has been put on the sightseer map as it is home to one of the island premier attractions, the 'Oasis de Los Camello' zoo. This fantastic zoo is home to a variety of wildlife, but the central activities available are parrot shows, pony rides and camel safaris. Whilst waiting for the excursion visitors can unwind beneath the palms at the zoo's bar, or sample one of the exquisite seafood restaurants that have appeared in the community. Make sure you do not miss out on one of the best family holiday destinations this year with a trip to stunning Fuerteventura.
