Could you imagine passing a whole day without a mobile phone? It was not too long ago that they were not seen as an everyday object but now mobile phones have become one of the most essential appliances to have in your everyday’s life.
With this in mind, here are a few interesting facts about our "can’t live without" gadgets.
• Teenagers are possibly the most textually active age bracket, but ever wonder what country sends the most text messages? China leads the world in text messages. They send over 500 billion per year. The US weighs in at a mere 300 billion annually!
• There are now over 5 billion active mobile phones in the world. That’s not far off the equivalent of a mobile phone per person.
• People throw away more than 125 million mobile phones in each year. It becomes a general tendency for people to shed their phones quite often. For example, it has been found that the Koreans generally change their mobile phones within a year. This is now becoming an environmental issue as well.
• For the convenience of vote delivery, the Estonians are using their mobile phones. It also serves as a very convenient means to show their personal identification.
• The first mobile phone device was invented by Motorola and the device was named as DynaTAC 8000X.
• Did you know two-thirds of mobile phones users are using the backlight of their phone as a flash light? It was confirmed after the survey taken by the sprint. Well, nice use of a mobile phone.
• Mobile phones are becoming an excellent tool to notify people about the upcoming disasters or emergencies. Phone companies in some countries like Finland and Japan, where earthquakes are very common have already worked out these features. Such features in the mobile phones will be absolutely of no charge.
• If you have a Nokia mobile set, are expecting a very important call and you are going to run out of battery, do not fret! Simply by dialling the code *3370# , the battery of your Nokia set will upgrade up to 50% by using a built-in reserve battery. This is very helpful in the situation when mobile battery is about to finish and you do not have any other means to charge your set.
• The first ever Short Message Service (SMS) was sent by Neil Papworth in December of 1992 containing the words "Merry Christmas". 17 years later, 4.1 billion SMS were sent daily in the US alone.
