So you need a lawyer, but can’t afford one. Or, perhaps, you have a need for some legal work,

but getting an attorney would be overkill. There are a number of reasons for wanting to be your own attorney. You may need a simple contract or a simple will. Additionally, people often want to do their own divorces to save money. This last reason is especially true with the current economy.
When I meet new people who find out I am attorney, I often get the same typical response. What is that response? I usually get asked a legal question. Almost always prefaced by the statement that they don’t want free legal advice.
Most of the time the questions are straight forward and born out of curiosity. Additionally, they are usually about the law as it relates to politics. I usually respond with a brief answer and leave it at that.
On the other hand there are also a significant number of simple questions, to which the answer requires more serious deliberation. The answer to those questions is "it depends." In other words, since one thing has an effect on another, the question might simple but the answer complex. People really hate that answer. But, really, it’s true. It does depend.
The benefit of hiring an attorney for questions like that is he/she knows on what the answer depends.
Given the economy, and the cost of finding hiring and retaining an attorney, it is understandable that people want to do things themselves. Of course, although President Lincoln once said, "he who represents himself has a fool for a client" or, you know, words to that effect, he did not have the benefit of the internet.
With the advent of legal technology and the transforming legal business model, an online legal services firm can be the best of both worlds. There are, however, a few requirements. For instance, it is better to find a virtual law firm run by an attorney in your State. This allows you the client to get the benefit of reduced cost legal services and the legal advice you need with it.
A quick online search reveals a slew of companies who are ready to incorporate you and give you a nice little folder along with it. But, before deciding on which type of incorporation you need, it is wise to get some legal advice on the matter. A company that just prepares incorporation documents cannot give legal advice.
You should also make sure the virtual law firm with which you are dealing is not too busy to be able to help you. If you have any questions after you purchase, you will want them answered. If you are using an attorney online, then you still want the benefit of one on one legal advice after your purchase. For instance, you may have just a simple question about your purchase. You will still want that customer service.
Finally, you also want to find a virtual law firm that will help you by giving you legal coaching and advice. This is different than legal advice with a purchase. For instance, you may need to go to a small claims type of court and need to know what to expect and how to prepare. Instead of trying to find out online and trying to fit your situation in with whatever you happen to find, you can get concise and pointed advice directed to your situation. This will likely give you an edge over the other guy, or it may help you if the other guy has an attorney.
To recap: Finding an attorney selling online legal services in your State, get legal advice before your purchase, and get customer service and legal advice after your purchase. Finally, find legal coaching and advice
you can obtain separate of other legal purchases.
