Quite often corticosteroids are prescribed as a treatment for such health conditions as Chron's disease and ulcerative colitis. This medication makes part of the drug class called corticosteroids, and has similar effects to cortisol, which is naturally produced in our body by the adrenal gland. Initially, this drug was widely prescribed for inflammatory conditions such as Chron's disease until specialists have observed that prolonged use of this drug can pose danger to the health of the person taking the drug. However, there's no denying the fact that this medication is by far one of the most effective medications used to reduce inflammation that often leads to serious conditions like ulcerative colitis and Chron's disease.
It is highly recommended that you use Prednisone under your doctor's supervision because it may cause some serious side effects if used for too long or taken in doses higher than recommended. The most common side effects reported after the use of this drug include mood swings, weight gain, low resistance to infections, headaches, increased hair growth, increased eye pressure, and many others.
Chron's disease is classified as an autoimmune disease of the gastrointestinal tract that may affect any part of the system. It is manifested through inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract in a specific region, which usually leads to such symptoms as diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss, inability to concentrate, skin rash, inflammation of the eye, tiredness, arthritis and others. The causes of this health conditions are still uncertain, but there's a set of factors that raises the risk of Chron's disease. It was observed that genetic predisposition plays an important role in the development in this disease. Immune system abnormalities also raise the risk of this condition, as quite often immune cells are directly responsible for inflammation associated with Chron's disease.
Treatment of Chron's disease is often a complex process that includes both medication use and lifestyle changes. Prednisone is often prescribed for eliminating the symptoms of Chron's disease, which are often similar to those of ulcerative colitis. Lifestyle changes that can help overcome this inflammatory disease include a special diet, proper hydration and smoking cessation. It was observed that smoking provokes inflammation caused by Chron's disease. So you'll have to stop smoking if you want to overcome this health problem, even if you're taking Prednisone.
If you observe the first signs of Chron's disease you shouldn't lay off visiting your doctor because it will only get worse. It isn't a mild problem that will wear off on its own after some time. The longer you leave it untreated the worse the inflammation will get and the harder it will be to eliminate it afterwards. Using prescription drugs without your doctor's consent is also not a very good idea since you may seriously damage your health by misusing such medications. Only a doctor can prescribe you with the right treatment and dosage of drugs that will help you overcome Chron's disease. So don't hesitate and visit your doctor after observing the first signs of this disease o ulcerative colitis, which the Chron's disease can be mistaken for.
