San Antonio, TX March 2011 Afterglow Cosmetics strives to formulate the safest natural products infused. with organic botanicals to nourish you skin. Whenever possible we use USDA Certified Organic ingredients in our products. All of the ingredients in the products below that are listed in green and contain an asterisk are USDA Certified Organic. Many botanical ingredients are simply not available in a certified organic form at the moment. Many ingredients such as candelilla wax or algae are not farmed but rather gathered from the sea or the forest. We refer to these natural ingredients as "wildcrafted" because they are grown in the wild, without pesticides but not under the strict guidelines of an organic certification. Bismuth oxychloride is a natural ingredient found in the majority of mineral cosmetics. It is the main irritant in some brands of mineral cosmetics. Though a natural by-product, bismuth oxychloride often causes itching, rashes and mild to severe cystic acne. This is particularly unfortunate since many women are attracted to mineral cosmetics due to their recognition for being good for sensitive skin as natural cosmetics.
If you choose a mineral cosmetic that includes bismuth oxychloride it may cause added irritation. If you have had a reaction to mineral cosmetics in the past it is likely because of the bismuth oxychloride in the product. Afterglow Cosmetics understands your need for a mineral cosmetic without irritating ingredients like bismuth oxychloride. None of Afterglow's products contain bismuth oxychloride. Bismuth oxychloride is not an ingredient you find very often in natural circumstances. It is a by-product of copper and lead refining and it can be found on the periodic table too. What may surprise you is that bismuth oxychloride resembles arsenic and antimony chemically. It is also considered a heavy metal. Cosmetically, bismuth oxychloride is considered a pearlizing agent and produces a high shine. Additionally, when applied to the skin as a foundation, bismuth oxychloride often has an unnatural glowy finish. Many women find this strange 'glowy' finish produced by bismuth oxychloride unappealing. Bismuth oxychloride also has a very soft, almost slippery feel.
Foundation gives you a flawless base for your face, giving your skin a healthy uniform color, texture, and appearance. It is important to use a foundation that matches your skin tone. Unsure of your skin tone? Remember, the golden rule with mineral makeup is that a little goes a long way. Start with clean skin. If you use moisturizer, make sure it has been fully absorbed before applying our mineral cosmetics. Conceal Flaws - Tap a small amount (a dime size or less) of Afterglow Organic Mineral Foundation into the lid of your container. Sweep up the foundation in the lid using our Concealer Brush. Lightly brush over areas of your face to cover skin issues, acne, broken blood vessels, discoloration and dark circles under your eyes until you achieve the coverage you desire. Apply Foundation - Before you get started please know that mineral foundation should NOT be applied wet, using fingers, in large quantities or on damp skin - this will yield a cakey, uneven application. Our mineral foundations are highly concentrated and need to be applied in very small quantities, using a good dense bristle brush such as our Kabuki Brush or Foundation Brush. Follow the steps below for flawless coverage.
