Whenever someone mentions "the holidays", the mind immediately heads to November and December, where the glut of holidays reside. However, there are a number of other holidays throughout the year that you can take advantage of when you are trying to come up with ideas to promote your bar. Head to your favorite search engine and find some of those lesser known "holidays" and come up with some ways to use them to draw in the crowds. The following are a few holidays that you can use to get started.
Sorry Charlie Day – For those who have ever suffered disappointment, there is Sorry Charlie Day. It happens on April 6th of each year, and it is quite obscure. However, it doesn't have to be! Get the word out through your regular advertising channels and tell everyone to come to your bar on the 6th. It can be a time to commiserate, and to make the hard times a little more bearable, let folks know that if they say "Sorry, Charlie" to the bartender, they get a discount on their drink.
Flip a Coin Day – Believe it or not, there is such a thing as Flip a Coin Day and it occurs on June 1st. Once again, use your advertising magic to let people know about the special day. When they come into the bar, every time they order a drink, have them flip a coin. If it is heads, they get a discount on their drink. If it is tails, well, sorry, Charlie. Wait – that was the last zany holiday!
Read a Book Day – September 6th is Read a Book Day. Not enough people read in this day and age, and you can help put a stop to that. Everyone who comes into your bar on that day and has a book in hand gets discounted drinks. Better yet, you can have people come in with books and donate them to good causes, such as shipping books overseas to the military or donating them to schools that can't afford to add to their libraries. You can help literacy and promote your fun loving bar all at the same time.
These are just a few of the countless weird "holidays" that are out there. Have some fun with them and you will see just how easy it is to come up with some great promotions that will make your bar the hot spot in town.
