When you head out to choose a pair of goggles for motorcycle riding, you should first make sure that the frames are tough and durable. Be sure to look for quality goggles and don't try to skimp on price by choosing a cheap pair of goggles. After all, they are protecting a precious and irreplaceable cargo - your eyes!
Frames are generally made from plastic, rubber, polymer, grilamid, polyurethane and other materials, and are all good quality. These kinds of frames also offers greater flexibility and are able to flex to your face and will give you a more comfortable fit.
Get a Tough, Shatter Resistant Lens
You should really only consider one type of lens material for your motorcycle goggles, and that is the polycarbonate lens. These lenses are not only lightweight and durable but they will provide you with a stellar optical clarity if they have the stamp of the ANSI Z80.3 standard.
For lens colors, smoked, yellow and amber are typical types available. Yellow and Amber lenses are great for low light, overcast, rainy days and enhance brightness and contrast, while clear lenses are generally best for low light and night time activities where you need eye protection.
Polycarbonate lenses will protect your eyes from high-velocity and high-mass impact and are resistant to shattering. You won't have to worry about your goggles splintering if they are hit by small stones, other debris and small objects on the road. From pebbles to gravel to dirt and bugs, your eyes need this protection, especially for riding on highways.
Do I Need Foam?
There are usually two kinds of foam to choose from for your motorcycle goggles - open cell or closed cell. Foam on your motorcycle goggles will prevent debris from getting into your eyes, will help to reduce wind flow, will help to reduce vibration and be more comfortable as well.
If you want to get the softer, lighter and more sweat absorbent foam, you will want to choose the open cell foam. The open cell foam tends to be able to conform to your face better and will provide a tighter seal around your face.
The main advantage to choosing closed cell foam is that it will help to provide a certain amount of ventilation, will help to reduce fogging and it has better durability than the open cell foam.
When it is time for you to choose a top quality pair of motorcycle goggles, you will want to look at the above basic criteria.
