Cotton works well as a material for lounge pants and pajama pants because of its easy care properties. A durable fabric, it is easy to wash and dry. When caring for your cotton clothing and for all clothing in general, the best thing to do is to follow the instructions that the manufacturer provides in the garment tag. However, if the tag has been removed or is now unreadable, here are some general guidelines for caring for cotton clothing. Please also use your own common sense, though, as I am not responsible for any mishaps that occur when caring for your clothing.
Cotton is a very easy fabric to dye. So the first thing to do is to separate your light clothing from your dark clothing. When you've washed a colored piece several times, it's easy to think you can just toss it in with the whites with no problems. But when you wash colors and whites together, the whites tend to look dingy after a while. So keep your white clothing separate and wash them in their own load. If you wash your pajama pants and lounge pants in a washing machine, set the water temperature to warm.
A cotton garment is safe to put in the dryer if it has been preshrunk. But if the garment has not been preshrunk, then there's a risk of it shrinking to where it won't fit properly. When you're not certain if your pajama pants have been preshrunk, it's best to assume that they have not been. You don't want to find your freshly dried pants are now too tight or sport hems coming up to mid-calf. If you can machine dry your pajama pants, then tumble dry on the low setting. If you don't know and don't want to risk it, then hang them on a clothesline. If there's no clothesline, then hang them over a shower curtain rod or lay them on a drying rack.
Since cotton wrinkles easily, remove your garment from the dryer soon after it stops. But if you forget and they stay in the dryer until they wrinkle, don't worry about it. An iron will take care of the wrinkles quickly and easily. Your iron should have a steam setting just for cotton. If you don't have a steam iron, then take a spray bottle of water and mist the garment so it is damp before ironing.
