The subcategory of Rehabilitative Medicine known as Occupational Therapy is extremely relevant in helping to evaluate, and treat, children with autism for several reasons - the first one being its overall approach to treatment, in general.Occupational therapy takes a somewhat different approach in treating patients in that it uses both the educational, and philosophical, when working with an individual.Occupational Therapy intervention is one of the most promising, results-oriented job-savers a person can experience within a lifetime. A healthy, healing intervention saves jobs, restores hope, a worker's self-confidence and self-esteem. This story is about the loss of hand movement, and the positive results of an OT intervention.
Occupational Therapists are responsible for treating people who have chronic or permanent physical, mental, emotional, or developmental disabilities. They are trained to employ a number of techniques specifically designed to help people maintain balanced living skills. This is what allows individuals to function properly regardless of their unique conditions. There are many reasons why a person might require an occupational therapist. Despite the misleading name, occupational therapy does not always refer to therapy conducted within the workplace. In many cases this kind of therapy takes place in the home and covers a greater area of care than you might anticipate.
Most occupational interventions rely upon ingenuity and creativity. For our computer mouse hand injury, we relied upon a mouse hand warmer blanket pouch to hold the computer mouse and mouse pad. The blanket is made of fleece and covers the computer user's hand completely creating a warm house for the mouse and mouse pad. We inserted inside the mouse hand warmer blanket pouch an USB heated mouse and USB heated mouse pad to generate heat inside the blanket pouch housing.
Occupational Therapists work with children with Autism to find out what is meaningful to the child, identify barriers, and facilitate for the child to engage in those meaningful occupations. Occupational Therapists often work on the sensory processing difficulties that children have. This includes tactile defensiveness, where the OT gradually introduces new textures so the child can maintain alertness and not be distracted by particular sensations. Other areas that OT's work is building the child's skills in recognizing the feelings of others, and the skills required for self care tasks such as eating, dressing, playing.
In general, occupational therapy involves helping lessen the effect of post-traumatic stress to the motion ability of a wide range of patients. Practitioners use a very effective method, which involves prescribing a patient to do an occupation or an activity over and over until his motor skills come back to normal.
Author has been a practitioner in Occupational therapy for many years and has given tremendous benefits to lots of people being an occupational therapist. As per his experience its the greatest technique to maintain work and life balance.
