It's no secret that the Internet has became the number one business tool and the world's biggest economical hub. Billions of dollars are invested in new technologies that help business owners make the most out of this highly profitable global network. So it's easy to see why most companies, both big and small struggle to establish a strong web presence, not only for the main brand, as it happened in the past but also for each individual product.
Nowadays, mobile phones, laptop, gaming consoles or even shampoos have their own website, Facebook fan page, Twitter account and Youtube channel. Everything in order to make the products more popular and to bring them right under the noses of potential buyers. People are no longer looking for a certain product … now products are looking for them.
Competition online is fierce and millions are spend on advertising, building websites and trying to attract more and more costumers every day. But what happens when all these tactics fail? What happens when despite all the aggressive marketing campaigns a product still refuses to leave the warehouse at the rate its manufacturer would like? Well, then it's time to take marketing to the next level and offer the product for free to a number of costumers. This is a really good strategy as it manages to hit two birds with one stone so to speak. On one hand it draws attention to the product (I mean come on … who doesn't like free stuff and giveaways). On the other hand, this strategy relies on the fact that the people who get the certain product for free will hurry to show it to their friends and family who might become interested in actually buying it.
Nowadays this strategy is employed by more and more companies, even by the ones that have products selling like hot cake but still want more costumers and more awareness. Plus, this is a good way of imposing the brand as a "good Samaritan" that people love. Of course, needless to say there's no such thing as a "good Samaritan" in the ruthless world of big business and billion dollars CEOs. It's all about the money and every move is planned in advance in order to generate more profit in the following months or years.
However, every corporation's hunt for profit brings along opportunity for the average Joe. It's quite easy to take part in these giveaway programs and get cool stuff for free. From $10 gift cards to laptops, there's nothing the big players don't give away for free.
