Black mold is a deadly creature that usually thrives in moist and wet places. Places that are mostly targeted by black mold include kitchen, bathroom and basement. This fungus damages the surface it grows on and can also affect the health of the people residing around that place. Consistent exposure to black mold can result in severe health problems like fatal lung infection and, in some cases, even death. The growth of this creature can be controlled through moisture control.
If mold is a problem in your house, you need to make sure that you dry the wet and moist areas as soon as possible in order to prevent its growth. Make a habit of fixing leaky pipes every month. You will find a number of products and detergents in the market that are especially designed to kill black mold. If you cannot afford to buy these products, there are other effective ways through which you can get rid of this living organism.
You can clean black mold with a washing detergent and water. The solution of water and detergent would only help to clean off non-porous surfaces like glass and tiles. This solution would not help to kill mold but only clean it off temporarily. There are high chances that the mold might grow back.
You can also choose to sprinkle pinch of baking soda on moldy carpets. Let soda rest on your carpet for 1 hour or overnight and then use a vacuum cleaner to vacuum up the baking soda. You can also use a solution of baking soda and water to clean tile floors.
One of the easiest methods is to use borax powder. You can use a solution of borax power and water to mop off the floors. Leaving borax powder behind will also prevent black mold from growing back. If it is possible, try to expose the affected area to sun and open it to ventilation. This would greatly reduce the occurrence of mold.
The solution of vinegar and water is widely used by people to get rid of mold. All you need to do is to fill a plastic spray bottle with the solution and spray it on the affected areas. Then, use a tough brush to scrub it off.
Ammonia solution can also be used, and it is considered to be a very effective way of removing black mold. Take ammonia solution in spray bottle and spray it on moldy areas. Leave the solution on affected areas for at least one hour and then rinse it off with water.
These are some common household products one can use to remove mold completely. However, one must remember that these creatures can return and we should take precautions to prevent them from growing back.
