Dufresne's Walk 4 Change will start in April of 2012 from Alcoutim, Portugal. He will be walking for the next 18 months. Martin has designed a virtual map of his journey on his website for those that want to follow his progress and planned routes. His itinerary included the most difficult GR Trails in Europe (GR 11 The Pyrenees, GR 20 Corsica and GR 5 The Alps). He will only take three day break every month to recuperate and perhaps enjoy the surroundings.
Trading his computer for a 16 kilogram backpack, Martin will lug all of his essentials, including even a Small HD video/audio recorder to capture HD photos and video essential to complete is documentary film about his journey. He'll also rely on Internet cafés along the road to maintain and update his website and give Facebook and Twitter updates.
Dufresne's website will be the integral part of his entire plan and also his contact with the rest of the world. The website will function as the main source of revenue for his journey by the sale of T-shirts, and advertising at walk-4change dot org. In addition, donations will be taken on the site as well.
Dufresne will use boats to cross the sea. He will be using CouchSurfing for inexpensive places to stay in large cities, but plans to camp in a bivy or sleep at refuges and gîtes d'étape. Martin will depend on help from others to complete his mission. He will accept donations of food and supplies, walking boots, and logging, there is a complete list on his website.
Each day will be a new adventure for Martin. He will feel truly alive and live each day to the fullest. Dufresne will battle the elements, the environment, and the dangers along his path experiencing the true fragility of life. He will appreciate the simpler things, and along his way, see Europe. In September 2013, Martin will complete his Walk 4 Change in Amsterdam, Netherlands after crossing 10 countries, including Spain, Andorra, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembour and Belgium.
This is not a race. Dufresne is not trying to break records, win accolades nor receive awards. He doesn't want the focus to be on him. He states it best, For me, this journey is about never giving up on your dreams and sharing your vision with the world. Most important, it's about giving hope of a better world!
The Walk 4 Change is an altruistic adventure that the whole world can take part in. Martin Dufresne's feet will conquer this feat as he will be walking to change the world.
