The Variety of Deburring Solutions

A metal fabrication company creates metal parts and tools by pouring molten metal into casts. When the casts are separated, there is always some level of burring that needs to be removed from the final piece. Burr is the excess metal that collects on metal parts either at the seam where the mold came together, or on other parts of the piece where metal flakes tend to form. The type of deburring solution that a fabricator uses to get rid of the metal flakes depends on what the customer needs in the final product, how much final product there is and what kind of metal is being used. In order to appeal to a broader range of potential clients, it is always a good idea to have several deburring options available at all times.
One common deburring solution for mass produced pieces is to use magnets and brushes. An assembly line is created where the pieces are first brushed to remove any burr that is attached to the piece such as at the mold seam and then a magnet is applied to pick up all of the remaining pieces of burr that may be attached. When it comes to auto parts or metal tools, this sort of deburring process can address hundreds of parts quickly and accurately. You can also get programmable deburring systems that allow you to mass produce specialized parts as well. This is one of the more economical ways to finish metal parts and tools while still allowing you to deliver superior products to your clients.
Another deburring solution is to use a grinding wheel to get a variety of results. You can use a grinding wheel to get a bevel on your finished product or remove larger seams and burrs effectively. The grinding wheel process can be faster for some of the larger parts that your company is fabricating as well as some of the more specialized parts that require a customize finish. You can have a significant amount of control over the results you get with a grinding wheel, but it is limited to larger projects and not necessarily a good solution for precision jobs.
Whether the deburring solution you need involves grinding down a seam or giving a polished finish to an aluminum part, you will need to make sure that your deburring equipment is up to the task. Analyze your company’s needs and make sure that your service offerings are always able to keep up with the needs of your demanding customers.
