Curtains come in different lengths, fabrics, designs, patterns, and colors. Shoppers must see to it that they use the right combination of all these elements to create the perfect effect for their home's curtains. They can also have curtains custom-made in order to get full control over all the details.
Among the many attributes of a curtain, its color stands out as arguably the most important. It is imperative that you select the proper color to prevent it from clashing with the other components of the room. The house already has its own color palette from the floor to the ceiling and the curtain must be able to blend into this seamlessly or else the effect will be jarring. Also, keep in mind that besides its decorative value, the curtain will also be useful in regulating the light that filters through from the windows. The temperature will also be affected by the choice of color.
Why go for white curtains?
Curtains are often used to conceal the interiors from the outside while allowing the light to filter through. Since they block the sun, they bear the brunt of harsh ultraviolet rays which can cause the colors to fade over time. The effect is accelerated by exposure and intensity so those living in warm climates will be affected quite severely. Vibrantly colored curtains will turn pale after years of continuous use. The darker the initial shade, the more obvious this will be. Smart homeowners will therefore turn to white curtains as these do not have any dyes to worry about. They will retain their appearance for many years with proper care. Another trick is to use a double curtain configuration wherein white curtains face the sun while colored curtains face the room.
Natural Tones
A good way to achieve an elegant look is to use natural tones for furnishings. This gives the house a subtle yet stylish feel. Interior designers recommend the use of ivory, beige, eggshell, tan, ecru, and various shades of brown to accomplish this. These earth colors give off a warm glow that is very attractive, especially if the elements are put together in a sensible manner. If your furniture, flooring and walls already use earth tones then it only seems fit to use the same for the curtains. This will reinforce the overall effect and create an aesthetically pleasing environment.
Follow Your Heart
There are many ways to devise an interior decoration strategy but in the end, the choice is entirely up to you. Fads will come and go so be careful about buying things that are currently on everybody's shopping list. Instead, go for curtains that you truly like in terms of their colors and designs. You will see them every day, after all, so they should be something that will make you happy. Consider what the other family members think as well. The colors for their rooms should be reflective of their own personality. For communal spaces like the kitchen and the living room, going for white curtains is the safest choice.
