We all want to have a home that is show worthy but keeping up with ever-changing home decor trends is nearly impossible, not to mention expensive. So instead of constantly chasing the latest home decor fad, opt for timeless home decor. This may sound hard but we have done all the hard work for you. Below are five of our favorite home decorating tips to create timeless home decor.
- Pick the perfect color
We’re talking neutrals here. Opt out of the eccentric colors and stick with the basics. You can never go wrong with warm or gray tones. For a warm toned home look for light tans, lavender and ochre. If you’re leaning toward gray choose a lighter gray such as dove gray. Selecting a neutral and non-overpowering color will make your rooms feel larger and will likely compliment your furniture.
- Lighting is key
Having a room that is well lit gives the illusion of roominess. If you are fortunate enough to have a room with natural lighting—don’t cover it up. When purchasing window treatments choose ones that allow the natural light to flow in such as sheer curtains or shades that can be pulled up when not in use. If there is not natural lighting invest in lamps. This is a great opportunity to decorate as well—there is a large variety of both table top and floor lamps that can liven up a space. To keep the timeless home decor style, make sure you purchase lamps that air on the side of simple.
- Make sure your furniture is functional
The latest furniture trends are certainly cute but they are not comfortable. Make sure that the furniture you choose dozen’t just look good, it feels good too. There are plenty of stylish furniture options that are also comfortable. After all we want to be able to live in our homes not just show them off.
- Make your storage stylish
Keeping your house organized is a guaranteed way to help your home look like those on Pinterest. Organizing your home dozen’t mean having plastic bins laying around there are a myriad decorative organization tools. Whether you choose to organize with hanging wall baskets or ornate drawers, there is a stylish organizational solution for every room of your home.
- Minimalism
There are so many appealing home decorations it’s hard to not want them all; but not every wall, tabletop and corner need to be decorated. Choose home decor that is useful—storage baskets or a tabletop decoration that you actually use. The more useless pieces you have cluttering your home the messier and less show worthy it will appear. Plus the less you have the less you have to clean.
Don’t get me wrong there is always a place for a modern or unique piece of home decor—not everything in your home needs to be a timeless piece. Make your staples; your furniture, wall color and general theme, timeless and add splashes of super trendy home decor. Textiles are a great way to do this—add a funky throw pillow and interestingly textured blanket to your seating arrangement.
