Sizing solid hardwood is not simply a matter of cutting. The wood — often teak, sheesham — has cured and settled over decades. MJ works slowly and deliberately, trimming edges with precision hand tools, reinforcing joints where needed, and ensuring the door hangs true. Sizing up, when required, demands equally careful joinery so that additions blend seamlessly with the original timber.

Sanding and Finishing to Honor the Patina

Once sized, the real artistry begins. MJ and Era sands each door by hand, working through progressive grits to smooth new surfaces without erasing the aged texture that gives antique doors their soul. Then comes the most nuanced step: matching the finish. Using layered stains, oils, and hand-applied patina techniques, we restore the door's original depth of color — ensuring that a trimmed edge looks as though it was always there.
