Why Become A Notary Public? Let me answer that question with a few questions. Are you interested in making your self much-more valuable to your employer? Would you like to have the title of state officer on your resume? Will your employer or interviewer see that you have something extra to offer that nobody else has in your office? I hope you answered YES out-loud to all three questions….or you are missing out on a way to Turbo-boost your resume to the top! Twenty years ago…when I left 8 years of active service in the Navy... it was hard to find a high paying job because…quite frankly…employers think you are good at war stuff and maybe a little rusty at the civilian world, or as we Vets refer to it as, "The Real World". I was in the military to pay for my education because my college career stalled after 1 year of tuition bills. Ugggggh! I spent 8 years in the Navy going to college on nights; weekends and… yes I even took a course on an aircraft carrier in the middle of the Indian Ocean. This was of course when I was not busy jumping out the back of a helicopter into the ocean. I earned two degrees but had no business experience for my resume when I left the Navy, only to find my peers left me in the dust with their successful careers on track for 8 years while I was on hold. After a few months of turning down those scam sales jobs…ya- know…the 100% commission ones where you even pay your own training expense, I was looking for an edge. I stumbled upon a great idea to make my new resume look….well like an experienced, valuable person for any business. I wanted to know how to become a Notary Public because a friend of mine said it was easy. I looked for a Notary public class. I then studied for a quick Notary Public exam and got my Notary Public license in the state I live in, NY. Now I quickly put that on my resume and it was like Night & Day. I soon landed a great job which included a company car with a Fortune 500 Co. as an insurance adjuster. Here I am 20 years later….interviewing for a multiple six figure VP job! Guess What? The same Notary Public licensing credential is helping me again. From entry level to VP or Director….having the words, "Notary Public" will jump off your resume or your business card and impress anyone you need to impress. Heck it might even help get you a date with the future love of your life. That’s how I met mine.
