Located in the geographical center of England, the city of Leeds is a logical access port for visiting several cities on a single holiday. The area was named Visitor City of the Year in 2005, and continues to improve its tourist industry and welcome many new visitors every year. The local economy has been boosted each year, and all four major hotels were top rated choices in the Good Hotel Guide in 2004.
When visiting the area, generally one will land at the Leeds Bradford International. This airport has noted an increase over the last five years of 75%. They continue to expand and increase flights that link to London, Liverpool, and Hull.
Once visitors land near Yeadon at the airport, they can get their car hire UK. Car hire Leeds and Car hire Leeds Airport offers several options, and the rates are comparable to the other car hire UK posts available. The roads are being developed into a series of ring roads and connecting junctions.
Though the town itself previously had its basis in the manufacturing industry, it now only includes about 10% of its population in various manufacturing positions. It is now among the best business cities in Britain. The city has therefore increased its weekly connector flights to more than 450 that land at 50 major destinations.
Tourists visiting the area will be treated to a lovely skyline, and the progression of new buildings is to be reaching for the sky. Currently, the tallest building is called Bridgewater Place. It houses many office and residential spaces, and can be seen as far as 25 miles away. The atrium inside Bridgewater boasts the tallest sculpture in Yorkshire, that was created by artists Bryan Davies and Laura Davies. This uniquely shaped building has been the cause of some comedy, as well as some struggles, as the wind from recent winter storms were flowing past it as if it were a wing of an airplane. People walking past sometimes had trouble walking past the immense structure.
Leeds is also where the famous Opera North company can be found. This group was founded in 1977, and has since spread out to hold seasonal performances in many other cities, such as Nottingham, Sheffield, and Newcastle. The orchestra of the opera also performs separately, as well as records its own productions.
The other huge draw of visitors is the Northern Ballet Theater. This dance company focuses on classical ballet, and telling a story with the dances performed. The ballet dates back to 1969, when the Western Theater Ballet had its first performance at the University Theater.
Whatever the reason for being in England, Leeds provides a cultural base to explore its city, and connect to other areas by its efficient and expanding airport. The museums, art galleries, parks, and planetarium provide plenty of entertainment and enjoyment for visitors to fill a week-long holiday. Yet the airport connections allow for exploration beyond its borders in easy and inexpensive flights. The central location serves visitors a holiday to remember.
