Are you thinking of getting a plunge into the world of Web 2.0 with the library and the creation of a wiki? I recently put together a successful wiki for my college library and so I'd like to share some tips for success in order to do so successfully.

1. What wiki platform are you going to use? This is crucial, because there is one hundredth of them out there, and all differ in terms of simplicity, price, and setup, as well as the ability to control who can see your wiki as well as who can post to your wiki.

2. To use your wiki exclusively as a method of organizing and changing the material on your site? Or do you want to use a wiki to allow that your interaction with each other?

3. What exactly is the purpose for your wiki? To communicate between library employees? To communicate with their patrons? To let your will communicate with each other?

4. What content are you going to include in your wiki? Only links to other sites on its library Web site, search library catalog, information about courses and events Library, popular books, news or other things?

5. Would you like to pay for services or wiki want to use free wiki?

6. Is there a technical support person available to help you install your wiki and help with some occasional maintenance? If not, do you have a librarian who can take charge of the wiki and its restoration and maintenance of technological side wiki? Wiki is much easier to use and keep up with a regular website, however, you can not just put it up and never spend time working on it.

7. It also helps if you can develop some specific wiki content. In our case, we created subject pages for each of the main subjects taught to our faculty and includes links to databases, journals, books, ebooks, specialized encyclopedia and web pages for each thing. We also have our library of news and politics, among other items of interest to our sponsors on our wiki. You must give the reason for your reading wiki, and that ga used.

8. Wikis are one of the technology and the future as more and more libraries and other businesses begin to use them, it is to your advantage to learn how to use one and decide if this is right for their libraries.
