Chiller systems are the most expensive and complex part in any machine which is designed to circulate fluids through an application. The fluid medium circulation typically uses water or a water-glycol solution through the process application for cooling. Chiller systems are mainly classified into portable chiller system and central chiller systems.
Central chiller systems can supply temperatures between 20º to 60º F to several processes simultaneously, throughout the entire system. They are stationary and require a circulating system, typically a pump tank station which is used for the distribution of water to several processes. The capacity of the chiller system ranges from 20 to 200 tons. Chiller systems are available in two categories, the modules and packages. Modules are the stand-alone chiller units which use a pump tank station for the production of chilled water. Packages are the self-contained units which uses the chiller unit and the pump station in a single platform.
Air-cooled chiller systems are available in the capacity ranges from 20-180 tons and the water-cooled chiller systems are available in capacities from 20-200 tons. The ambient air is used in this chiller system to dissipate the process heat. In the water-cooled chillers typically a plant water supply source is been used to dissipate the process heat.
Central chiller systems in air-cooled models are available in different package units like single zone, dual zone, triple zone, outdoor unit and module. The water-cooled model consists of all those package units similar to the air-cooled system, except the outdoor. These chiller systems vary in the capacity ranging from ¼ -300 Tons. The price range of these systems starts around $2,175.
New Carrier Chiller systems and Legacy Chiller systems are two of the most popular manufacturers of chiller systems. They provide the system with high quality with efficient performance. The Legacy system also serves you by designing bio-medical chiller systems, semi-conductor chiller systems and fermentation chiller systems. Refrigerants that are generally used in the chiller systems are the chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s). The installation of an efficient Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning (HVAC) system can reduce the energy costs up to 35%. The various technologies which are used in the chiller systems like HVAC controls, economizers, thermal energy saving systems and other technologies used in the Chiller systems can save you even more on energy costs.
