Color contacts are contact lenses that are of different colors. These lenses, when worn, change the color of the eyes. They are a great way to change the look of your face by having unique colored eyes. Color contacts are of many kinds depending upon the kind of material; soft or hard; transparent or opaque; the objective of wearing a lens (vision correction); the price; and many other kinds. There are PMMA lenses, gas-permeable lenses and soft contact lenses. Some are disposable while others can be used for a very long time. Color contacts are basically of four kinds: enhancement tints, visibility tints, opaque color tints and light-filtering tints. The most common colors are: blue, green, brown, hazel, gray, purple, aqua, turquoise, sapphire, and many others. These can be chosen to suit your skin color. There are also novelty color contacts that have unique designs on them like zebras, cat eyes, white-out, jaguars, wildlife, red hot, ice fire, hypnotica, knockout, alien, wolf, stars and stripes, fire etc. These can also be custom designed to suit your costume.

By law, color contacts require the prescription of an eye specialist. Non-prescription color contacts are plane contacts that are just for cosmetic purpose. They do not help to correct the vision. However, even non-prescription color contacts, i.e contacts that do not alter the vision of the wearer in any way, also require a prescription by law. It is better to get even non-prescription lenses fitted by an eye-care specialist. A doctor would be able to give the correct measurements of the pupil, the base curve and the diameter of the iris for making the lenses so that the fit and the comfort are just perfect. He would also be able to recommend the right color.
