Sony unleashed another model in the already existing wide range of XBR6 HDTV‘s , the Sony KDL-46XBR6. Stunning looks combined with a variety of features project the 46XBR6 as the ultimate in HDTV. Glossy, piano-black screen subtly merges with a silver speaker grille at the base. It has a very trendy look which may or may not work to its advantage depending on your taste. The 10-bit LCD TV panel is able to display 1024 levels of gradation for each RGB color. Subtly different shades are shown in vivid colors lending a natural and life-like look to the images.

The 120 Hz Motionflow technology doubles the video frame rate and guards against blurring, resulting in smooth and fluid movements in action scenes. An Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) circuit uses real time image processing to produce extremely natural images. The Bravia engine reduces noise and projects sharp images with 1920 x 1080p resolution. 24 fps video can be displayed using the 24p True Cinema technology. The KDL-46XBR6 is DMex enabled providing connectivity to optional Bravia Link modules like the Bravia Internet Video Link.

Pros: Viewing directly at the HDTV is great. The picture clarity is awesome. Contrast and black controll gives a well defined sharp picture. Color options are good but it took me a while to set color to the picture I wanted to watch.

Cons: I have to be carefull cleaning the screen, and I have left instructions for my family.

Setting the color is a pain. Changing cable input to HDMI on the back requires the picture color to be set again.. Viewing angle is closer to 90's.

Summary: 2 week review. First, I tinker with things until I get them the way I want them, drives my wif e crazy.

2nd the TV was priced at $2999, I bought it for $2499, from local dealer. The best price I could get for KDL46Z4100 was$2299, so I picked the XBR6.

I replaced a KDL34 HD VEGA. (TUBE TYPE that had a great picture.)

I had trouble getting the picture color set. And it took a several attempts to get the picture I wanted to view. I adjusted the "color temperature" to Warm 1 and set the "Color space" to wide.

I am now used to the picture and haven't changed the color in a week.

I am amazed at the color depth, contrast, black , and detail when I watch anything on HD. Even digital HBO looks great.

The inputs on the back of the TV are easy to read

The SONY TV remote is confusing at times and getting to the correct menu can be tricky without the manual. I put the SONY remote away and I'm using the DVR remote at this time.

I like the black frame around the TV being smaller. As a result, the TV doesn't look as big.

I'd like the viewing angle to bigger. I mean the picture looks very average from the side, greater than 90's. and can be misleading. My chair is now in "front" of the TV.

Essentially, this "future-proofs" your KDL46XBR6 by creating an expandable platform for connecting to other compatible devices that haven't even seen the market yet.

And finally, if you are looking to personalize your KDL46XBR6, you can purchase an optional speaker grille in multiple colors.

In sum, the KDL46XBR6 delivers legendary XBR performance via exclusive motion and color technologies. And with the gorgeous piano gloss black finish, you'll have a wonderful view whether the HDTV is off or on.
