The health benefits of EPA fish oil are many. But in most cases, DHA takes an upper hand in dealing with problems of the human body. DHA and EPA can together make us fight against numerous diseases and give us a healthy life. As you know, EPA and DHA are two of the most important omega-3 fatty acids. They are found in abundance in fish oil. By taking fish oil or its supplements, you can get your share of EPA and DHA. Oily fish mainly found in the deep seas are a rich source of fish oil. The Hoki fish found in the deep waters of New Zealand is the main fish used for extraction of fish oil.
EPA Fish Oil For Depression
Studies on the benefits of fish oil have revealed that it is extremely helpful for treating depression. People having unnecessary guilt feelings, a feeling of worthlessness, insomnia and depression felt much better after taking fish oil for a few weeks. These people were on anti-depressant drugs which were showing no effects till then. These studies have proved the importance of fish oil in responses to nerve stimulation. A comparative analysis showed that DHA was more necessary for structure and EPA for function. Even blood samples of some people suffering from depression showed below normal levels of EPA. And when these people were given controlled doses of DHA, they showed no improvement while the same administration of EPA produced dramatic results.
How to Consume EPA
Although our body needs EPA, it cannot manufacture it on its own. You have to take in supplements to have a healthy level of EPA in the body. EPA fish oil is the best source as it will give you the necessary EPA. You will also get a lot of EPA by eating oily fish from the deep seas. But there is a disadvantage of taking fish. There are high levels of contaminants in the fish. Mercury, lead and other impurities may damage your health. On the other hand, fish oil and its supplements are molecularly distilled to filter the impurities. Also, you have to take a lot of fish regularly to get the desired levels of EPA. Fish oil will give you the requisite amount needed for a healthy body.
Benefits of EPA Fish Oil
DHA and EPA fish oil are needed by the body for various reasons. They are very effective in dealing with diseases of the heart. They also act on joint pains and give a lot of relief to arthritis and gout patients. Inflammation is cured with it. The messaging network in the brain gets a lot of stimulation by higher EPA and DHA levels. Recent studies have revealed interesting facts which lists cancer; Alzheimer’s and even migraine as being treatable with EPA and DHA.
Fish oil is the best source of EPA and DHA. Flax seed oil can also be taken but it has the fatty acid ALA. ALA can be converted into EPA and DHA, but not without much difficulty. EPA fish oil is a better option and it will provide the body with the required levels of EPA efficiently.
