Household remedies have been used for centuries, providing people with a way to treat common conditions with items around their home. Some of these home remedies are quite effective; other times they're just not strong enough to do the job. If you have a terrible toe fungus, think twice before trying these household remedies because they may not be enough to get rid of the problem.
One of the most common types of home remedies for toe fungus is a vinegar soak, which involves soaking the affected area in a vinegar solution a few times a day. This treatment has an effectiveness rate of only about 10%, making it the wrong choice for someone that really wants to get rid of their fungus.
Sports creams can kill nail fungus too.
Canesten cream is another popular home remedy for many people. Canesten cream is designed to treat athlete's foot, although many people use it in an attempt to get rid of nail fungus because of its low cost. Canesten cream can be effective at getting rid of nail fungus, although it's messy to use and can irritate your skin. The level of effectiveness also varies depending on the severity of the nail infection.
Vicks Vapor Rub is yet another commonly used home remedy for nail fungus. The problem with this remedy is the fungal infection is deep within the nail; a cream or rub is often ineffective. Vapor rub is used on fungal infections by applying it to the affected area several times a day. This can take up to four months to even see results! If you're trying to get rid of your fungal infection quickly--or are trying to keep it from spreading--avoid home remedies like this that can take months to even see an improvement.
The most well-known useful cure for fungus nails is vinegar. The use of vinegar has been proven effective because fungi cannot take sudden change in pH and they can easily die when exposed to vinegar's acidity. The toes should be soaked in vinegar for 25 minutes. This is best done once a week because fungi usually regrow. Clipping the nails can be difficult to do when you have fungus in it but you do it with ease after soaking it in vinegar. Regular clipping and filing can help regain the smoothness of the nails. After bathing, it is also advisable to apply vinegar by cotton swab or using a dropper. Remember to let it dry. In addition, vinegar can also stop the itch caused by athlete's foot. Another effective home remedy that can complement vinegar is Tea Tree Oil. Tea Tree Oil can be applied every night to coat the nails. It is good to wear socks to avoid training the sheets.
