The kitchen sink is the first to get dirty, and the last to get cleaned. The kitchen sink becomes the dumping grounds of everything in the kitchen. The dirty dishes hit the sink before the dishwasher. On top of the dishes are the dirty utensils, pots, empty baggies, used glasses and cups. Finally, the sink itself has to be cleaned.
-
Get some scouring powder, wash cloths, and if you are finicky, wear rubber gloves. Make sure that the scouring powder will not scratch the type of sinks you have. Do not use anything that is abrasive, or you will scratch the sink and end up buying a new one.
-
Clean out the sink of any dirty dishes and put them into the dishwasher. Lightly wash out pots from any leftover foods and put them into the dishwasher as well. Pick up all the knives, forks and spoons sitting on the bottom of the sink and put them into the utensils' basket in the dishwasher. Throw out any empty baggies, bones or banana peels remaining in the sink. This to make sure they do not get stuck in the garbage disposal.
-
Rinse the sink with the sink spray. If there is no spray piece, run cold water, swishing the water on all areas of the sink by using a washrag. The entire sink should be moist. Sprinkle the sink with the cleaning powder. Make sure to put the powder into all corners of the bottom of the sink.
-
Put on rubber gloves if needed and get prepared to scrub the sink or sinks, if you have the two.
-
Rub the bottom of the sink with the washrag using a circular motion. Do the same in all the corners and sides of the sink. Allow to stand for a few minutes. Use the same rag and do the same on the top of the sink, the faucet, and the entrances to the drain and garbage disposal.
-
Make sure that all the surfaces of the kitchen sinks have been well scrubbed. They should look foamy. Rinse out the sink with cold water. Use the spray piece if available. It makes rinsing off the sides and corners of the sink easier and faster.
-
Let the cold water run. Rinse out the washrag by putting it under the water stream. This will wash off all the cleaning powder. Make sure to rinse off the tops of the sink and faucets.
-
Peel a fresh orange. Insert the orange peel down the garbage disposal. Turn on the cold water and the garbage disposal until the peels are gone. Now the kitchen sink will look and smell clean.
