Ever wondered what your electricity is actually costing you in real terms? The Owl cm119 Electricity Monitor can help you to do just that.
The Owl cm119 Electricity Monitor is a wireless device which connects to your electricity meter and tells you exactly how much electricity each device in your house is using in pounds and pence. The Owl cm119 Electricity Monitor not only highlights the amount of money we are wasting on our electricity but also helps us to save that money and the environment too.
The Owl cm119 Electricity Monitor tracks your home's electricity supply and provides real-time monetary information about your household energy usage. When electrical devices are running, the Owl cm119 Electricity Monitor tells you exactly how much electricity is being used, how much the cost of electricity changes per hour and how much carbon dioxide the home is producing.
By simply turning off appliances when they are not in use consumers can save up to %25 on their electricity bills and reduce their harmful carbon dioxide emissions.
The Owl cm119 Electricity Monitor works by monitoring a small magnetic field which surrounds your electricity cable. By referencing the voltage of your system and measuring the current, the Owl cm119 Electricity Monitor can calculate the power usage, the price and the amount of carbon dioxide being produced. This information is then sent to the wireless monitor unit which can be up to 30 metres away.
Most UK households have a single phase electricity supply Current flows to and from your household appliances using a neutral and a power line. Some households have a three phase supply, a set of three lines, each carrying a voltage or phase. One sensor should be connected to each of the phase lines before you use the Owl cm119 Electricity Monitor.
Electric power stations produce electricity by burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil or natural gas. The by product of the combustion of these gases is carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and others. These and other gases are thought to be linked to global warming. All power stations have a slightly different efficiency rating, depending on what type of fuel they burn. The Owl cm119 Electricity Monitor calculates carbon dioxide emission at a default level of 0.43kg (0.95lbs) of green house gases for every 1KWh of electricity produced. This can be changed depending on the type of fuel used by your local energy authority.
What does all this mean?
Voltage is the amount of electrical potential. It is measured in Volts (V).
Current is a measure of the amount of electricity flowing through a conductive material. It is measured in Amperes or Amps (A).
Power is the rate at which electrical energy is converted to another form. Both voltage and current are necessary to provide electrical power for your household and your electrical appliances. Power is calculated by multiplying the Volts by the Amps. It is measured in Watts.
