Making application reviews is beneficial for many reasons: you get to know the target product market better; you can assess various program features; application’s developers will most likely be interested to get feedback on the product they have put the effort into.

I picked 4 applications that allow to convert various formats into flv and gave them a thorough search. Although, the term "thorough" is used somewhat loosely since I’ve been reviewing trial application versions.

I hope the review will be practical for regular users. It’s important to note that my intention wasn’t to sing praises to one and humiliate another. I wanted to inform and that’s about it.

Moyea FLV to Video Converter Pro 2

The application brought by Moyea turned out to be quite a good program with a number of useful features such as embedded video player, a set of adjustments and options for the video. The program is rather easy to use, has nice interface and a lot of target conversion formats to choose from. The conversion process doesn’t differ greatly from other players, so no difficulties here as well.

The main downfall of the trial version is the limitation that got to do with the converted video file: for the obvious reasons the converted video has a watermark, but the trial version also has a noise effect which makes the video screen to shake. That means we can only assess app’s functions that are available only in the full version, but not the quality of the video, at least not completely.

The application also features a few obligatory "trial version" windows here and there together with a few links on other products the company’s promoting.

Key feature: diversity of conversion formats.

Letdown: overlimitations of the trial version; a few ads windows that may distract your attention.

Jocsoft Flv converter

Another simple converter application by Jocsoft. Comparing to the previous app, the set of options offered here is more modest or probably the developers have yet to learn to flash them properly. However, the trial version looks almost full and allows video conversion without the watermarks and noise effects giving users an opportunity to make their own judgment of the app.

The thing I didn’t get at once was that converted and yet to be converted files were grouped together within one field. As a novice user of this specific application, it was a bit hard for me to tell which ones were which, but this is just a learning curve.

Among the special features are: drag-and-drop function where you can drag the whole folder with the video files and the conversion of multiple files at the same time.

Although the application looks a bit old-fashioned (in the Help section it states the app dates back to 2008), has some clumsily introduced help messages, it’s still does the job good.

Key features: drag-and-drop function; multiple video conversion.

Letdown: outdated interface; certain learning curve.

Video to FLV converter

The flv converter by Wordadding is the application with nice interface, embedded video player, some additional settings and options to check out. Drag and drop function is one of the special features of the converter.

The couple of things that put me off – the video player has an out-of-place looking bar; software provider’s webpage features a different name of the application than the title of the program; I couldn’t locate the format choice menu – won’t prevent you from testing the trial version of the app at full.

Key feature: drag-and-drop feature.

Letdown: didn’t manage to find the output format menu.

CS Flv converter

Coding Staff, known more by its involvement in DNN (DotNukeNet) skins and modules development, decided to test the waters with its own flv converter software, a sphere previously unknown to the company.

The first thing you notice when the program is on its simplicity: it looks simple and it’s equally simple to use it. The application doesn’t look overwhelming and heavy with various functions all over the place making the app look soothing. The interface looks nice and modern as well.

Talking about a technical side, the converter supports all major video formats. Another good thing for users to be aware of is that the difference between the trial and paid version is the watermark on converted videos making the trial version almost completely a free flv converter in its own right considering that the trial version doesn’t have a limitation period. The price of the paid version is much lower comparing to other vendors with similar programs.

Being at its first version flv files converter by Coding Staff has a limited number of functions, but it doesn’t fail to impress and be a user friendly app. That considers both the program’s functionality and price.

Key features: major video formats support; good interface; simple to use.

Letdown: limited number of features.

As I mentioned the reviews are for the users to get familiar with the products or services they are going to use. And although the reviews are served mostly for the informational purposes, they still can influence the choice and make one product or service more favorable than the other. This is the challenge for users and reviewers alike: to test what the review says and see if the review was credible; and for the reviewer to get users’ trust and keep providing them with the info they will relying further on.
